Arsenal Striker Van Persie Crocked Again

The Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie has only just returned to the Dutch national team after suffering an ankle ligament injury last year in a friendly against Italy, and he looked back to his best as he scored both goals in Hollands 2-1 win over Mexico last week.

But last night in a training session at the Dutch training camp in Austria, he twisted his ankle again, and according to the mornings Mail, he left the field with his foot packed with ice to relieve the pressure.

There are only two weeks left until Holland’s opening World Cup match against Denmark, and coach Bert van Marwijk will face an anxious wait to find out if his star striker will recover in time.

Gunner striker Nicklas Bendtner believes he can only get better after coming through his own injury hell

The Denmark international made what was only his second appearance since a three-month lay-off after groin surgery in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Emirates Stadium, which put a massive dent in Arsenal’s Barclays Premier League title hopes.

Manager Arsene Wenger did not move to replace injured forward Robin van Persie during the transfer window, instead placing his faith in the likes of fit-again Bendtner and England international Theo Walcott.

Bendtner, who turned 22 last month, has endured a difficult campaign so far this season, having escaped a car crash with only minor injuries last September.

Robin Van Persie is more than content to have committed the best years of his career to Arsenal.

The Dutchman, 25, has ended speculation on his future by signing a new, long-term deal which is reported to be worth some £80,000 a week.

Van Persie told Arsenal TV Online: “Lots of people have given me love from this club, and for me, it is a small thing I have to do to pay them back.”

Van Persie hoping for news over new Gunners deal

Robin van Persie is hoping he will soon have “something to report” regarding a new contract at Arsenal.

The Dutch striker has two years remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium and the delay in talks has sparked suggestions he could leave the club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that he is waiting for the chance to discuss a new deal with van Persie and, while the player admits no progress has been made regarding an extension, he suggested there could be news in the near future.
