MARK Hughes sent Arsenal spinning out of the Carling Cup last night – then blasted Arsene Wenger for refusing to shake hands at full time.

Second-half goals from Carlos Tevez, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Vladimir Weiss sealed Manchester City’s passage to the semi-finals and a mouthwatering clash with city rivals United.

Hughes was celebrating a famous victory at the end but hit out at Wenger and called on the Frenchman to be “more gracious” in defeat.

It appeared the Arsenal boss had been angered by Hughes wandering into his technical area during the goalless first half which led to an angry exchange between the pair.

Aggrieved Hughes said: “At one point I was over on his side of the technical area and he seemed a bit aggrieved by that. But I think he is probably more aggrieved because he lost.

“I have been to the Emirates and been beaten 6-2 but I still offered my hand at theend. It is the least you can do.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Kolo Toure could leave Arsenal as talks continue over a possible move by the Ivory Coast defender to Manchester City.

Toure played for Arsenal on Monday night in a pre-season friendly in Hungary but could move to City in a £15 million transfer later this week. Wenger said the next 24 hours will be decisive.

He told Arsenal TV: “We will see what’s happening in the next 24 hours, nothing is decided yet. We have seven centre-backs and I am in the position where I have to play some in midfield but of course Kolo is a very good player and we will see what will happen in the next 24 hours.”

Business associate of Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov claims Emmanuel Adebayor should have been sold to any club other than rivals Manchester City.

A business associate of Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov claims Emmanuel Adebayor should have been sold to any club other than direct Champions League rivals Manchester City and questioned whether the Gunners squad is strong enough to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Farhad Moshiri is a London-based investor with close links to billionaire Russian Oligarch Usmanov, who owns around a 25 per cent stake in the club.

Moshiri is ‘mystified’ as to why the Gunners board rejected a rights issue proposed and underwritten by Usmanov this summer which he intended to generate transfer cash for manager Arsene Wenger and also reduce the club’s long-term debt.
