Arshavin wants to end his career at Zenit St Petersburg

Andrey Arshavin admits he would like to return to Zenit St Petersburg to end his career.

The Russian international left Zenit for Arsenal in a January transfer worth around £12million, but he admits he wants to eventually return to his former club.

“I played for Zenit for a long time and now I want to play abroad and then return to St Petersburg to finish off my career there,” he told Radio Zenit.

Arshavin spent nine years at the Russian club, winning the Premier League, the Russian Cup and the Uefa Cup during this period.

Vermaelen completes Arsenal move

The Belgium international has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract in a deal worth up to £10 million according to the Dutch club.

Manager Arsene Wenger said: “Thomas is a great signing for Arsenal and we are all delighted that he is joining us. “Thomas is a solid performer with good experience of Champions League and UEFA Cup football and is also a regular with the Belgium national team.

“Thomas is primarily a left-footed centre back, but he’s multi-functional and can also play at left back.
“He is strong technically with a positive winner’s attitude and I have no doubt his arrival will strengthen our team. Thomas Vermaelen will be a huge asset to Arsenal.”

Vermaelen, who is 23 and was Ajax captain, commented: “I’m just so happy to be joining Arsenal. This is a great club with a world class manager, high quality players and a fantastic stadium.
“Everything is set up for Arsenal to be very successful for years to come and I joined this Club because I know Arsenal will be challenging for trophies.

“I have had a good taste of the Champions League during my time with Ajax and this is something I am looking forward to experiencing again with Arsenal. “I’m also looking forward to playing in the English Premier League, which for me, is the best league in the world. Also, I just want to assure the Arsenal fans that I will give everything for this club and I hope we can enjoy winning some trophies together next season.”

Barcelona after Cesc Fabregas

Barcelona are planning to make a £40million bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

The newly-crowned European champions have made the Arsenal captain their number one target.

Arsenal signed Fabregas from Barcelona six years ago for a paltry £750,000 as they took advantage of Spanish employment laws concerning young footballers.Barcelona now want him back.

Van Persie hoping for news over new Gunners deal

Robin van Persie is hoping he will soon have “something to report” regarding a new contract at Arsenal.

The Dutch striker has two years remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium and the delay in talks has sparked suggestions he could leave the club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that he is waiting for the chance to discuss a new deal with van Persie and, while the player admits no progress has been made regarding an extension, he suggested there could be news in the near future.
