Arsenal’s record goal scorer Thierry Henry had a few tears in his eyes today as he unveiled a bronze statue of himself outside the Emirates stadium. It was an emotional scene as the Frenchman was stunned by the Gunners tribute to him.

There were tears from Thierry Henry today as Arsenal unveiled a bronze statue of the club’s record goalscorer outside the Emirates Stadium.
Henry has been immortalised in familiar goalscoring pose, on his knees, fists clenched, as part of the Gunners’ 125th anniversary celebrations.

He’s joined by two further bronze statues, one of boss Herbert Chapman, who is regarded as the founding father of the club’s success from the 1930s, and a third featuring inspirational captain Tony Adams.
As his statue was unveiled, Henry launched into an Oscars style acceptance speech, complete with tears.

The weepy Frenchman said: “I know I don’t show emotions often. Some of the time some of the press used to kill me for not showing emotion.

“But there you go I’m showing emotion right now for the club I love.

“I just wanted to say thanks to my family for being here, my best friends also, my daughter, my mum.”

Henry bagged 226 goals in his time with the Gunners, helping them lift two Premier League titles and the FA Cup twice. Original article here.

It was a nice tribute by a great club to honour someone like Thierry Henry who gave so much to the Gunners. I’m sure the statue will be admired and cherished for years to come.

I’d definitely let Emmanuel Adebayor leave Arsenal this summer.

He has already made noises about being unsettled – similar to ones he was making last year.

So if clubs follow up their interest then I would sell. I don’t think he will improve and Arsene Wenger could do better with the money he would bring in. It would be a huge profit on the Togo striker. Yet another example of Wenger’s acumen in the transfer market.

Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to miss Arsenal’s final match of the season against Stoke City on Sunday, meaning he may have played his last game for the club.

The Togo forward, who is suffering from a groin injury, was booed by some supporters in the last home game while his agent Stephane Courbis this week said that he does not know what the future holds for the 25-year-old. Chelsea, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all monitoring developments.

Samir Nasri is also unavailable on Sunday due to tendonitis, while Vito Mannone could make a debut in goal after it emerged Lukasz Fabianski has a knee problem.

With Wenger having been targeted by Real Madrid, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has indicated a desire to keep the Frenchman well beyond his current contract until 2011.

“We’ve consistently said we would like him to remain involved with the club as long as he has the drive and the ambition to want to do that,” said Gazidis. “He is clearly staying. He has the full support, unequivocal support of our board. It does not surprise me that clubs like Real Madrid would be interested. He would be the most in-demand manager internationally in the game.”

Gunners legend Robert Pires believes “Arsenal need Arsene Wenger more than he needs them”.

The French coach has allayed fears he was set to quit Emirates Stadium for Real Madrid following criticism by some supporters in the wake of a fourth season without silverware. Wenger, whose contract runs until 2011, continues to have the full support of the board, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis insisting their manager was going nowhere when quizzed while on a visit to Dubai at the unveiling of a new football school.

ARSENE WENGER will be in charge at the Emirates next season after dismissing reports he is on the verge of quitting the Gunners.

The Arsenal boss has reportedly been approached by Real Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Perez about becoming manager of the Spanish giants should he get elected to the post.

And Wenger did little to quash those rumours when he stated on French television that it would be interesting to work for Perez, who has courted the Gunners boss on a number of occasions throughout his 13 year rein as Arsenal chief.

But Wenger seems set to stay on at the Emirates after vowing to stay put in north London.

The Arsenal boss said: “There’s nothing to worry about, it’s not an issue for me.

“I’m staying here. If that changes I will let you know, but don’t worry about that. It’s not an issue.”

Wenger has been heavily criticised in recent weeks after seeing his team stumble at the semi-final stage of the FA Cup and Champions League.

Emmanuel Adebayor admits he has been left hurt and considering his future following the abuse he has suffered from Arsenal fans this season.

The Togolese front man has endured a disappointing campaign at Emirates Stadium after struggling to recapture the form that so impressed last term.

He attracted attention from the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona in the summer and it was his perceived courting of their interest that stoked ire amongst the Arsenal faithful.

Adebayor was wanted by the Italian giants 12 months ago, but a deal failed to materialise and the Togo ace signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

However rumours of a move away from Arsenal have resurfaced in recent weeks, with Chelsea having been linked with an end-of-season bid.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger admitted last week he would have no problem selling to a Premier League rival, but insisted Adebayor is part of his plans.

The former Monaco forward also revealed earlier this month that he will be staying with the club “100 per cent” next season, but Milan appear set to make a renewed attempt to sign the 25-year-old.

DESPITE hinting he would bring experienced players to the Emirates this summer, Arsene Wenger has set his sights on another potential young Gun in the shape of 17-year-old Uruguayan striker Gonzalo Barreto.

The highly-rated forward seems certain to leave his current club Danubio, with the Gunners said to be his preferred destination.

But the news might anger some Arsenal fans desperate to see experienced players added to the club’s brimming pool of talented youngsters.

Striker Emmanuel Adebayor has committed his future to Arsenal, saying that he has no intentions of leaving the club that ‘made him’.

There is heavy press speculation linking the Togolese international with a move to the continent, and many Arsenal fans are actually hoping that last season’s top scorer would leave.

But Adebayor only wants to win trophies with Arsenal, saying: “Before signing, I can remember people telling me I had the chance to win things.

“Now I am empty-handed but I don’t have any reason for leaving until I have got trophies and what I came here for.

“Arsenal put me where I am today. They made me one of the biggest strikers in the world. I have to pay them back.

“How am I going to pay them back? Make them win trophies. That’s what I am here for and I have to fight for that. Next season, 100 per cent, I am an Arsenal footballer.

“I will do everything that it takes to come back next season and show how good I am, show character, personality and desire for this club. I have been doing my best, giving 100 per cent in every single game but don’t forget last season I played without injury. This time I got three injuries and that has made it quite difficult for me.

Kroenke paid between GBP 8,500 and GBP 10,500 per share, putting the value of the purchase at more than GBP 45 million, and now he is close to the 30 percent needed to make a takeover offer for the club.

Kroenke who purchased last month 8 percent of Arsenal’s equity from Danny Fiszman for GBP 42.5 million, now has a 3.3 percent of holding more than Uzbekistani metals magnate Alisher Usmanov.

“As a result of the acquisition, Stan Kroenke has a beneficial interest in, and controls voting rights over 17,613 ordinary shares in the company, representing 28.3 percent of the company’s issued ordinary shares,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

Kroenke was admitted to the Arsenal board in September last year and is now expected to make a full takeover bid in the summer.
