Real Madrid are turning their attention to Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas after being priced out of a move for Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish giants are not only ready to test Fabregas’s loyalty to the Gunners, but also to Barcelona – the club he supports and where he trained before going to England as a 16-year-old. He has regularly been linked with a return to the Nou Camp.
Liverpool scared off Real Madrid with talk of a £40m price-tag for Alonso, who Bernabeu president Florentino Perez had openly praised and pursued, much to the anger of Rafa Benitez.
