Almunia for England?

Arsenal’s Spanish keeper Manuel Almunia insists he would be proud to wear the Three Lions after becoming eligible to play for England.

The 32-year-old today becomes eligible for a British passport after spending five years in this country. And he would be allowed to play for England because he has never represented Spain.

He told today’s Sun: ‘It is almost impossible for me to be called up by Spain.

‘But it would be an honour if the England coach counted on me.’

David James, Rob Green, Ben Foster, Scott Carson and Paul Robinson are the current contenders for the No.1 jersey but none have made themselves a permanent fixture under Capello.

What do you think? Personally I’d like to see him offered the job and I think he’d be very good at it.

Fabio has no choice.I simply cannot imagine James or any other keepers on line to get the job done in South Africa! There is not a single number one capable after Shilton.
